Poto Poto I

£250.00

This mural image evolved over the three weeks, on the facade of a historic Brazilian home on Bamgbose Street, Lagos Island. This property is one of few remaining historic homes built by Brazilian returnees to Lagos in the early 20th century. Not only the swamps but this Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage is under threat.

Water buffalo (Efon Omi) needs help. The mangrove swamps (Poto poto) that once protected the land from the ocean, are being destroyed. Mother Nature joins in the battle, as human settlers upset the natural order. The forces of the sea are too much and a deluge destroys everything, even drowning Mother Nature herself.
