Basin Street Blues was written by Spencer Williams in 1926 and made famous by Louis Armstrong. Basin Street, in New Orleans, was the red-light district and where the young Louis spent time experiencing music in the high end brothels and dance halls.

Painted in 2015 when Polly was Artist in Residence at Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
